Upper Division Classes (Ages 6+)

 

Ballet II/III 

1 or 2x/week
 

Appropriate for students with at least one year of technique classes. Builds on the foundational movements, introduces more terminology, adding emphasis in control and rhythm. Increased importance of musicality, artistry, and an understanding of the anatomical basis of technique. Monday 6:30-7:30


Intermediate Ballet

2x/week

Appropriate for students with at least three years of technique classes. High-level steps are taught, with a continued  refinement of basic technique. Students will focus on precision and quality of movement, fluidity, musicality, and phrasing. Tuesdays 6:30-8:00 and Thursdays 5:00-6:15


Int/Advanced Ballet

2x/week

Through teacher recommendation only. Dancers focus on artistry and pushing boundaries of technique. Accents, phrasing, and expression through movement. Students should be goal oriented. Tuesdays 6:30-8:00 and Thursdays 7:00-8:15


Pointe /
Classical Variations

The highest form for classical female dancers, only achieved after much practice. Pre-Pointe is a class that helps students mentally and physically prepare for the rigors of pointe work. All pointe-related classes are by teacher recommendation only. Thursday 6:15-7:00 and 8:15-9:00


Contemporary

A free-flowing style of movement, often taking from the movements of classical ballet and inverting or contorting them to achieve new effects. Students must be enrolled in a ballet class.

Intermediate: Tuesdays 5:30-6:30 |

Intermediate/Advanced: Tuesdays 8-9


Jazz

A high energy, stylized form of movement. Jazz can take many forms, from musical theater, to funk, to Fosse. Ballet technique is a recommended complement to this dance style. Mondays 6:00-7:00


A dance form that promotes rhythm, focused on making a variety of sounds. Mondays 7:30-8:30

Tap


Upper Division Dress Code

Ballet – Girls: black leotards with pink or skin tone tights and pink or skin tone split sole ballet slippers. Tights and shoes must match. Hair must be secured in a bun or other style suitable for ballet such as a French twist. Jewelry kept to a minimum. Wrap skirts are permitted in center, pointe, and rehearsal. Warm-ups such as knit shorts, legwarmers and sweaters are permitted in cold weather. Boys: black pants, white t-shirt, black ballet shoes.


Contemporary - Black leotards with pink, tan, or skin tone footless/convertible tights. Shorts in any solid color may be worn. Tan/Skin tone half sole shoes. Leggings also acceptable.

Jazz/TapBlack leotards, any color tops with solid-colored shorts or leggings.   Black jazz shoes (slip on or lace up)., and black oxford tap shoes for tap class.
